In this project, I designed a comprehensive community-driven designated driving service, HomeSafe+, to tackle impaired driving in suburban Canada. My role included user research, survey analysis, service strategy development, and creating detailed user and driver flows. I also designed interactive interfaces for both users and drivers, including training modules, gamified alcohol awareness tests, and onboarding processes, ensuring a seamless and impactful user experience.

Introduction

Core Concept

This project stems from a critical issue in Canada: alcohol-impaired driving. Many individuals overestimate their ability to drive safely after consuming alcohol, leading to poor decisions and dangerous outcomes. This is compounded by the lack of convenient, reliable, and affordable designated driving services in suburban areas, where personal vehicles are essential for daily life.

Our community-driven designated driving service addresses these challenges by offering a safe and seamless way for individuals to get themselves and their vehicles home after drinking, while also promoting responsibility and reducing DUI incidents.

Predictive Results

Predictive Results

The introduction of this service is expected to deliver significant and measurable outcomes. It will lead to a tangible reduction in alcohol-impaired driving incidents, including fewer DUI-related accidents, injuries, and fatalities, particularly in suburban areas where reliable transportation options are limited.

By providing improved accessibility to designated drivers, we anticipate shorter wait times (under 10 minutes) and increased coverage in underserved regions. Through interactive kiosk-based games and app engagement, the service will drive behavioral change, encouraging individuals to make safer, more responsible choices after consuming alcohol. Users will experience enhanced safety and peace of mind, while local drivers benefit from flexible income opportunities, fostering stronger community ties. Additionally, the use of eco-friendly electric scooters for driver mobility adds a sustainable touch, further normalizing safe and responsible post-drinking transportation.

The launch of HomeSafe+ effectively tackled the pressing issue of impaired driving while enhancing accessibility and convenience for users. By integrating interactive self-assessments, eco-friendly transportation options, and community-driven engagement, the service delivers a seamless and trustworthy experience. The measurable reduction in DUI incidents, along with improved user trust and adoption, highlights the impact of innovative, user-focused solutions in creating safer and more connected communities.
